Max Dahlhaus

The Berlin based audio-visual artist and producer Max Dahlhaus is not operating in the anonymous semi-darkness, but there is always a person with a story emerging from his productions. While purposely focusing on contrasts like emotional and abstract, repetition and detail, opulence and minimalism, he does not know any frontiers between those principles. After self-releasing his first LP ‚Rims Of Time‘ in 2017 and the well received EP ‚Blakc Otu‘ on New York Haunted in 2018, Max directed his attention to live projects in 2019. He worked together with Born in Flamez during the Amplify project and went on creating a deliberately minimalist, but non the less mesmerizing light-show for his second LP „Atari Overdrive“ (September 2019, Hyperboloid Records), which he took on tour with him after the release-party in Berlin. As a next step Max played a completely new audio-visual live show at the CTM-FESTIVAL 2020. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he focused on ‚Let‘s Collapse‘, a collaboration with PIXELORD (January 2021, FunctionLab) followed by his third LP ‚Short Morrow‘ (March 2021, Infinite Machine) and yet another collaboration called ‚No Hiraeth‘ (November 2021, Absurd TRAX), this time with WRACK. Being a DJ since he moved to Berlin in 2009 and starting to play live in 2017, the two categories feel like home to him - Max is leaning into variety on both levels. While his recent sound experiments lean on tech noir, he is not part of a scene or school, but an imperturbable maverick who is always finding the true mixture of his own intellectual world and the everyday life in a sizzling metropolis. „Finished“ is a word completely unknown to Max, he wants the audience to be part of the creational process - his visual creations support the music but leave a great room for interpretation and wonder.
