Now residing in Manchester, UK, Ayy Den is a first generation Eritrean - Canadian. Having been raised on a diet of hip-hop, reggae, dancehall, soul and pop music, her influences are far reaching. Combining this with the exciting sounds of UK bass genres, Funky, Garage and Dubstep that made their way across the pond, Ayy Den naturally moved from a solely passionate listener to a radio host and is now a phenomenal DJ & producer. Beginning her journey on the decks when herself and a friend were snowed in their house. One of the few perks of a Canadian winter.
Fast forward to 2020 and she releases her first track ‘Pressure Drip’ in collaboration with UK producer Murder He Wrote on Leeds based label 1Fourty. Quickly garnering support from legends in the game, DJ EZ, Kurupt FM, Conducta, My Nu Leng, ‘Pressure Dip’ became instantly recognisable in clubs and across the airwaves on BBC, NTS and Rinse. Her most recent release ‘Werk’ features on Spanish producer & DJ AWW’s album ‘LADAH TEMPLE’. An impressive album that includes all female and non-binary producers and vocalists.
As a DJ, her sets are an eclectic bass led mix of UK Funky, Jersey Club, Garage, Grime, Footwork and beyond. Always exciting and most importantly always fun, her mixes have been featured in various publications including Trench and The Face Magazine. With slots on NTS and Rinse FM and further afield Rinse France, German station Cosmo Radio and one of Finnish’s best dance music stations YIeX, her reach is increasingly expanding.
After successfully completing a very busy 2022 gigging, she had the masses dancing in Atlanta in the US, Toronto in her home country, Barcelona, London as well as all over the UK. Joining several Keep Hush line ups and playing Gilles Peterson’s festival We Out Here, she ensures she stays true to her overall mission, to represent the sounds she grew up loving whilst highlighting underground artists.
She shows no sign of slowing down as we enter 2023. One not to miss if she comes to a city near you!
