Dmytro, aka be_ca_di, born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and based in Germany since 2008, is a Berlin-based multifaceted, eclectic DJ, a passionate music creator, label runner, and dedicated ambassador for contemporary Ukrainian sounds.
With over 100+ gigs since 2017, he is persistently exploring new sonic territories. For the past six years, he has been a resident of @shum.rave, a collective based in eastern Ukraine. He is the founder and curator of ОЧІ (@ochi.music.ua)—a label dedicated to promoting underground, non-commercial electronic music, originating in Ukraine. The label, which features 25 residents primarily from Ukraine, counts 52 releases, with a cumulative total of over 100+k plays on SoundCloud, 50+k plays on streaming platforms, and 30+k plays on Bandcamp to date. Label’s activity has garnered attention across various media outlets, with 37 press mentions and interviews in Ukrainian, English, and German, on renowned platforms like Resident Advisor, Mixmag UA, IDIOTEQ, The Quietus, DontTakeFake, Neformat, acloserlisten (Ukrainian Field Notes), and Slukh.Media. The label is also known for long-lasting collaboration with Musicians Defend Ukraine Foundation, creating and releasing 3 fundraiser compilations for this foundation.
Dmytro’s mission is clear: “There are so many talented people in Ukraine, and I want to provide a platform to share their music with the world. In my sets, I blend both released and unreleased tracks from my label with music from European and global artists. This fusion creates a sound where Ukrainian music stands proudly alongside Western music that has been iconic for us. My selections aim to challenge the lingering effects of post-colonial inferiority, offering a sense of our people’s connection to global artistic progress.”
Notable performances include Boiler Room Sloviansk (2021) and Kyiv’s K41 (2021).
Dmytro is also collaborating with visual artist Vitalii Shupliak since 2017, creating immersive audio-visual performances and composing soundtracks.
Currently, Dmytro is delving deeply into EBM, incorporating elements of synthwave, coldwave, darkwave, post-punk, electroclash, new wave, electro punk, new beat, synth punk, and dream pop into his sets.
Recently he released a fundamental work - mixtape ‘NEW MIX NEW ME’ and a B-SIDE mixtape - setting a tone for his upcoming sets/projects.
While he remains deeply connected to contemporary sounds and genres like techno, he also pays homage to the roots of the music that has influenced him. Expect unexpected and emotionally charged twists and turns in his mixes—his ability to seamlessly navigate between genres and styles creates an emotional journey, where both darkness and joy coexist in harmony.
