Florence-based DJ and producer Ricardo Baez grew up surrounded by music, influenced by his father’s blues and jazz records and his mother’s 80s pop dance tapes. This diverse background shaped his eclectic musical identity and led to the creation of Tropical Animals, the influential weekly party he founded in Florence in 2010, widely recognized as a key force in the evolution of Italian club culture.
Known for his genre-blending, technically refined DJ sets, Baez has built a reputation for surprising audiences and pushing musical boundaries. His international career has taken him to renowned venues such as Tresor and Watergate in Berlin, Live at Robert Johnson in Frankfurt, House of Yes and Le Bain in New York, and XOYO and Corsica Studios in London.
Alongside DJing, Baez is an accomplished producer and the founder of the Tropical Animals label (est. 2018), a platform for his own music and artists like Whitesquare, The Cyclist, Robert Owens, Rebolledo, and Daniele Baldelli. He has also released music on respected labels including Mule Musiq, Permanent Vacation, Bordello a Parigi, and Correspondant.
In winter 2024, Baez released his debut album “Tutto Passa” on Live at Robert Johnson, a deeply personal project reflecting key moments of his life and artistic journey.
