SibaTHATHU is a DJ collective based in Johannesburg, South Africa, specializing in a sub-genre of Techno and Afro-tech house music that originates from KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa called GQOM. The Gqom sibaTHATHU plays is a fusion of Techno, Bass, Afrotech, and elements of an early 2000s South African sound known as Tribal, all with a touch of electronic infusion. However, the production style is not solely confined to these influences, as Gqom draws significant inspiration from the Nguni tradition, resulting in a culturally rich and diverse sound. The collective has graced stages in several venues around Johannesburg, such as ANDclub, The HallMark House, Cotton Lounge, and Radisson Hotel, to name a few. sibaTHATHU is committed to expanding the reach of Gqom to the global dance music scene and in doing so sibaTHATHU has been featured on major independent radio station around Africa and EUROPE such as Operator radio(NL), Refuge worldwide(GER), Bloop Landon(UK), NTS(UK) and we have a monthly residency on OROKO LIVE (Ghana) plus we DJed Played iMullar Sound System in as we firmly believe that this genre has universal appeal and deserves to be heard by audiences worldwide. We also run our own events called UMGQIBELO and sibaTHATHU presents which takes place every first Saturday of the month in the heart of Johannesburg. sibaTHATHU is a talented and innovative collective that offers a unique South African sound that stands out in the world of Dance Music.
